Sudbury Regatta, Sat 2 Aug 2025

Now in its 143rd year, Sudbury Regatta is a traditional event on the picturesque River Deben. Featuring a jazz band, stalls selling clothing and boat spares, food and drinks, tiered spectator seating, and an upbeat, informative commentary throughout the day, the IoERC crews and supporters had a wonderful time. The twisty 650m sprint course made for challenging steering, but we managed to bring home a couple of Sudbury’s legendary shiny tankards won by the J17 double. Well done, Tom and Edward!

It was a great opportunity for our venerable coach Victor to check out the silverware he won many decades ago, and for all of us to feel inspired to practice more cornering (not exactly our forté, with Ely’s fantastic straight Great Ouse!) in order to bring home more prizes next year.

Once again, it was a delight to witness the moral support among our junior squad, always cheering each other on, helping clear blades and boats, ever ready to lend a hand with each others’ boat checks, rigging and loading. We enjoyed meeting rowing friends from near and far and some of the prettiest puppies ever.

Thank you, Sudbury, we’ll be back!
