IOERC rowers tour Holland!

Four smiling rowers in Holland

Kirsty, Cathie, Liz and Jaqui from Isle of Ely Rowing Club (IOERC) adore their rowing and were keen to sign up for a tour around Steenwijk in Holland. Here in their own words are a few memories they wanted to share with you …

There were 28 rowers, many with lots of years’ experience of rowing in competitions and touring in stable boats.

After a hearty breakfast at our hotel, our morning would start with a briefing on our route for the day.

The area we toured in was beautifully unspoilt with only locals in the vicinity and we took it in turns to row and cox. We covered around 85k in our boats over 3 days and felt a massive sense of achievement, as some boats were more challenging to row that others.

We all worked to support each other during our tour.

Our route was non stop wildlife, enhanced by Liz’s app so that we could identify the bird songs – among the many highlights were hearing nightingales and seeing storks flying and in their nests, including a youngster with its head poking out.

We had delicious meals together at our hotel and a welcome cold beer at the clubhouse, to celebrate the end of our tour with our amazing hosts at Steenvijk Rowing Club.

The scenery was superb.

Goodbye Holland, we will never forget our amazing time spent on tour!
