Ely Shines at Cambridge Autumn Regatta

IOERC had a fantastic showing at the Cambridge Autumn Regatta, held on September 8, 2024. The event is the only British Rowing affiliated regatta in Cambridge, and the regatta course consists of a thrilling 550m sprint raced from the Railway Bridge to Ditton Corner … since the corners of the Cam would make a longer side-by-side course rather hair-raising.

Representing Ely were eight sculling crews, including singles, doubles, and quads. The team’s hard work and dedication paid off as they secured two impressive victories – especially impressive since our Ely crews had only just finished training for a race at the opposite end of the rowing-distance spectrum and coaches were not entirely sure what sprint skills remained.

The J17 boys, competing in the Open Quads category, continued their winning streak and claimed their third regatta victory of the year. They dominated the competition, defeating City of Cambridge by a comfortable three lengths.

Another standout performance came from the women’s double, who left their rivals in the dust and secured a convincing win over Globe by nearly two lengths.

The Cambridge Autumn Regatta was a well-organized and thoroughly enjoyable event. Races ran smoothly and on time, there was food and drink aplenty, and the organizers also deserve credit for arranging beautiful sunny weather. Congratulations to the winners!  We look forward to watching your progress and hopefully more victories in the coming months.
