Vote for Katie!

(Got a bit carried away with the headline – there isn’t actually a vote. The national winners will be announced online Thursday 26th January at 7.30pm.  A link to the ceremony will be posted on the BR website earlier that week.)

Katie Jugg’s just won the BR Rising Star Volunteer award for the Eastern region and is now shortlisted for the national award.  Go Katie!

She has become a hugely valuable member of the coaching team for both our Sunday junior sessions and our schools rowing initiative.  Richard Maxey, who coordinates our schools outreach programme (among about a thousand other things) writes,

“What impresses me most is Katie’s calm and measured approach to coaching.  She encourages the athletes constantly, regularly asking them questions to make them think about their technique, and she has a large store of tips and exercises to help them.

She transmits her enthusiasm for rowing and life in general to all the youngsters she works with.”

In addition to qualifying at Club Coach Level 2, Katie has also recently completed an RYA Powerboat driving course.  Richard is pretty sure she’s a better launch driver than most of the rest of us.

Also, she’s been accepted as a coach – one of only twelve for the region – on to the BR Women’s Development Programme.

All of this with the added credibility of a winning career as a junior.  We had no hesitation in nominating her for this prestigious award.
