Lilly’s Race Report – Norwich Small Boats Head and Norfolk Sculls
I’m Lilly T. I’ve been a member of IoERC since Year 8, and now I’m in Year 10. It’s a great fun club and I have good friends there, as well as my brother (he’s the one who always takes ages to get on and off the water!).
In October 2025, I went to Norwich Small Boats Head and Norfolk Sculls, to race in a single scull. Our coaches at Ely often send us out in singles, and I enjoy practicing. On the day of the race, my brother was racing too, and he raced first. I was so busy supporting him and cheering him on that I was slightly late getting ready for my own race, so I felt a bit rushed. However, maybe that was a good thing, because I didn’t have time to panic.
The race was 3k, and it went well, although I was tired towards the end. It was an interesting course and I had plenty to watch out for with bridges, boats, people fishing, and some big corners, with a sprint at the end. As I was racing, I knew I was doing well, because I managed to catch up with and overtake other rowers, which was exciting!
The prize giving was a big event for me because this was my first ever prize! The Norwich Club Captain said my name and called out my club; he said “Ely, that’s a long way to come!” He shook my hand and gave me my pot. I was so happy with my win!
