Head of the Dart Challenge

A great effort from the IoERC women’s 4x+ touring boat crew!

IoERC were kindly invited by our friends from Broxbourne and Weyfarers rowing clubs to join their crews taking part in the October 2025 Head of the Dart – a challenging 15km-ish tidal course from Totnes to Dartmouth.

IoERC touring fans Kirsty, Jaqui and Amy formed a combination crew with two lovely students from Broxbourne RC. Tilly, a sculling novice and her sister Rosie a University rower – what could possibly go wrong? But the crew powered along the course with determination and came a close 2nd out of the 8 touring boats, with an amazing time of 57.10 (28/50 out of all boat classes). There was even a “blink and you’ll miss it” cox-swap before the lower section of the race. This is where the river narrows and in this surge of rough water our crew managed <2min splits in a Charles Stanley!!

It was a fabulously fun road trip and great to catch-up with our recreational rowing friends. We are already looking forward to joining them again next year! Well done to all the competing crews 👏😍
