Welcome to the 2017 Great Ouse Marathon

We are busy preparing for the 2017 Great Ouse Marathon on 3 September, and we hope that you are busy training and preparing to enter it.

Last year was another record entry – with 177 crews in the draw, and 27 boat / crew categories with “3 or more in a category” to race for pots.

We will be following the sucessful format of offering a friendly race to suit all abilities, whether out to win a pot, break a record or challenge yourself over the distance. However, we aim to continue to improve , so for 2017 we have arranged more parking space at finish (returning competitors will appreciate that!), and whilst we willl continue to start slower categories of boat earlier, in response to feedback from competitors, we shall put more emphasis on starting crews in a similar category together, rather than relying on estimated times for individual boats.

As previous years, we have not put a limit on entries, but will monitor number and type of entries (managing 180 single sculls would present a different challenge to 180 eights); and we may have to close entries early if we feel the number of rowers will exceed our facilities. So – to avoid disappointment, please get your entry in early, particularly large boats and clubs with multiple crews.

We look forward to welcoming old friends and new crews on 3 September. For all the latest news, sign up to our mailing list below and follow us on Twitter @ioerc

Best wishes

About us

We are a relatively new club founded in 2004.  The club was born out of the Diamond44 celebrations which marked the 60th anniversary of the 1944 University Boat Race rowed at Ely. The Club colours, dark blue for Oxford and light blue for Cambridge, symbolise this connection. We serve Ely and the area north of Cambridge
