Ely Head race details

Final Results are now available to download. 

The Ely Boats Head is an annual head race over a straight 5km course (main event) and 3km course (junior event) on the River Great Ouse.

There will be three divisions with start times at:

  • Division 1 9.30am
  • Division 2 12.00pm (Junior head only over 3km)
  • Division 3 2.30pm

Please state preferred division time (this cannot be guaranteed) in the notes when entering.

All rowers are welcome.

  • Men’s & women’s events for eights, octos, fours, quads, doubles, pairs and singles
  • All BR Categories – senior, junior, novice and masters and adaptive

Boating will be from the Isle of Ely Rowing Club, Kiln Lane, Ely, Cambs CB7 4TX.  Detailed race instructions will be sent to competitors with the draw.


Entry information

The race is held under British Rowing Rules of Racing and water safety code. Entry fee is £10 per seat. Entries and payment to be made online via BROE.  Any crews who scratch after the final draw are still liable for the entry fee

Entries close at 1pm on 30 October. Draw to take place at 46, Victoria Street, Littleport on 30 October.

About us

We are a relatively new club founded in 2004.  The club was born out of the Diamond44 celebrations which marked the 60th anniversary of the 1944 University Boat Race rowed at Ely. The Club colours, dark blue for Oxford and light blue for Cambridge, symbolise this connection. We serve Ely and the area north of Cambridge
