Based on the River Great Ouse, we have access to some of the best rowing water in the country. The club is affiliated to British Rowing, the Eastern Region Rowing Council and the Cambridgeshire Rowing Association.
Whilst we are delighted to have potential Olympians amongst our membership (see GB Start); our active members range in age from 11 to well over 70. We run “learn to row” courses for all ages, including juniors, and we have taught many people in their 40’s & 50’s rowing for the first time. We also have members joining us from other clubs; and a significant number of members who rowed in the past, had to give up when the demands of work and young families limited their time, but who have come back to the sport as their families grew up.
We have organised sessions for adults on Saturday mornings and for juniors on Sunday mornings. Beyond that, coaches and competent crews have access to club boats at times to suit themselves, whether that is frostbite rowing at first light in December, or balmy summer evenings!
We have an excellent fleet of modern boats for racing, and also boats for recreational rowing which are used for training and by members who just want the exercise and the opportunity to be out on the river. We are currently fundraising to provide improved facilities for members at our club base adjacent to Hydro International’s offices and the Environment Agency’s Ely Depot.
We welcome new rowing members and supporters, including those who can bring experience to help coach our rowers at all levels, and help us continue to grow the club's success. We will be more than happy to show you around, however we suggest you contact one of the committee members before visiting the club, so that we can be sure you get a proper welcome!
